License Activation

LaoScript 8 is distributed by downloading it from the Lao Script for Windows website, and installed by executing the downloaded installation file.

When first run, LaoScript 8 will display the opening "Splash screen", showing program version, license details and license option buttons:

(The "Splash screen" window may also be opened at any time by clicking About LaoScript 8... in the LaoScript 8 menu.)

License Editions

Three editions of LaoScript 8 are available. The Free Edition of LaoScript 8 is installed by default, and provides Lao keyboard mapping and fonts without requiring license activation. The Standard Edition license enables Lao Add-Ins for Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and supports Lao spell-checking, sorting, text conversion and other functions. The Gold Edition license supports all Standard Edition features and adds Thai to Lao translation functions. Both Standard Edition and Gold Edition licenses require on-line activation.

Click About on the "Splash screen" for more information about the different editions of LaoScript 8.

30-day trial license

To explore the benefits of a licensed edition, users may activate an installed copy of LaoScript 8 with a free, 30-day trial license. To obtain and activate a trial license, click the Activate button in the "Splash screen" displayed when the application starts (or by clicking About LaoScript 8... in the LaoKey menu), then select and enter your user name where indicated, then follow the instructions below at Activating your license.

After the end of the 30-day trial, LaoScript 8 will revert to the Free Edition unless a Standard Edition or Gold Edition license is purchased and activated.

Purchasing a license

Users are strongly recommended to obtain a trial license before purchasing a license!

Licenses may be purchased on-line, or directly from a dealer in Vientiane, Lao PDR. For a current list of dealers, please see the Purchase Page page on the Lao Script for Windows web site.

To purchase a license on-line, using secure payment by credit-card from our online reseller Tavultesoft , please click the Purchase license button (or go directly to the Lao Script for Windows purchase page ) and select the link for the edition of LaoScript 8 that you want.

When purchasing a license from a dealer, the dealer will provide you with the license number, passsword and user name to use to activate your license. For licenses purchased on-line, that information is be sent by email as soon as possible after confirmation of payment.

To activate your purchased license, click the Activate license button in the About LaoScript 8... dialog, then enter your user name, license number and password (as on your license), and continue with the instructions below.

Activating your license

When activating either a free trial license or a purchased license, you will see the following dialog:

After entering your user name (and license number and password, for a purchased license), click Next.

Choose the method of activation you want to use, then click Activate. For most users with an internet connection, using Direct activation will be easiest. If you do not have an internet connection (or if Direct activation fails for any reason), you can activate your license indirectly using another computer. See Advanced Activation Settings for more information.

After a few seconds, you should receive the Activation code.

On Windows 7 or Vista, you will be then asked to enter an administrator level user name and password (or allow temporary "elevation" to administrator level). This is necessary to allow the Activation code to be saved, and complete the license activation process.

We recommend noting the Activation code in case you need to re-install the license, or request a replacement from Lao Script for Windows.

Note on License Activation Procedure

The method used for activating the license for each machine is similar to that used by Microsoft for recent versions of applications and operating systems. The machine signature used, which is unique for each computer, includes only hardware and software serial numbers. No confidential information or executable code of any kind is sent to or received from the registration server.

Please see License Activation Questions for more information about re-installing or transferring licenses.
